National Value-added Telecom Market Development Report

The China Information and Communications Research Institute released a report on the development of the national value-added telecommunications service market. The report shows that the regional development of the national value-added telecommunications service market is characterized by unbalanced development. Among the 4276 trans-regional enterprises, 1,689 registered in Beijing, 792 in Guangdong, and 442 in Shanghai, and 68% of trans-regional enterprises are concentrated in the three places.
The full report is as follows:
I. Overall development
As of the end of April 2016, there were a total of 35,252 business licenses for value-added telecommunications services in China, including 4,276 multi-regional enterprises licensed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and a total of 30,976 local companies approved by the communications agencies of provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities). In January, they increased by 2.16%, 2.25%, and 2.15% respectively.
Among the 4276 trans-regional enterprises, there are 135 state-controlled enterprises, accounting for 3.16% of the total number of operators; 4104 privately-controlled enterprises, accounting for 95.98% of the total number of operators; and 37 foreign-invested enterprises, accounting for 0.87% of the total number of operators.

Second, the business development
According to the category of value-added telecommunications services in the 2015 edition of the “Telecommunication Services Catalog”, 35,252 value-added telecommunications companies have a total of 43,262 licensed projects. Among them, 23,514 information service businesses (Internet information services only), 11,202 information service businesses (excluding Internet information services), 2,885 domestic call center services, 1,554 online data processing and transaction processing services, and 2,281 Internet access Service business, 872 Internet data center services, and 954 other services.

Third, the geographical development
At present, the regional development of the nationwide value-added telecommunications service market is characterized by unbalanced development.
Among the 4276 trans-regional enterprises, 1,689 registered in Beijing, 792 in Guangdong, and 442 in Shanghai, and 68% of trans-regional enterprises are concentrated in the three regions. The number of trans-regional enterprises in some western regions still stays at a single digit.
Among the 30,976 local enterprises, there are 6,184 in Beijing and 4,830 in Guangdong. The number of value-added telecommunications companies in Beijing and Guangdong is far ahead in the country, followed by Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Sichuan, and Shanghai. The six places concentrate 60% of the country's total. The value-added telecommunications companies in the western 12 provinces account for only 12% of the value-added telecommunications operators in the country.
