Hitachi Insight Group, which is committed to promoting Hitachi’s global integration of IoT business and strategy, today announced the Lumada IoT core platform. This platform integrates highly acclaimed commercial technologies from Hitachi's product lines and adopts an open, self-contained architecture that simplifies the construction and customization of IoT solutions. It is a fully functional enterprise-class IoT core platform. In addition to integrating multiple operating technologies (OT) and information technology (IT), it also combines powerful data coordination, streaming analysis, content intelligence, simulation models and other Hitachi software technologies. Lumada can accelerate the integration of mobile solutions and create value, and help companies make more informed decisions to achieve specific goals, such as improving productivity and safety, simplifying processes, reducing operating costs and carbon footprint or improving the quality of life. This platform will be the foundation of all Hitachi IoT solutions and will drive the development of the IoT ecosystem.
Many public-private institutions are committed to achieving process optimization, improving efficiency, and improving their relationships with customers and citizens, and digital transformation will be an important key. As a result, IoT solutions that can provide valuable information to facilitate digital transformation have rapidly become necessary strategies for various industries and markets. However, it is not easy to build IoT solutions with substantial benefits, especially in the absence of proper infrastructure or how to properly simulate and digitize operating units and processes. Although the existence of the IoT platform is necessary, it will also make the IoT solution more complex and rigid, making it difficult to change or fully support the large-scale digital business and market ecosystem.
The goal of Lumada is to solve the challenges of building IoT solutions through Hitachi's various OT and IT technologies. Its open and adaptive architecture can be applied to various industries and uses. Through this scalable and flexible platform, Hitachi, its customers and partners can easily customize or jointly develop solutions.
"The importance of the IoT platform is unquestionable in the development and deployment of IoT solutions, but it will also lead to increased complexity, thus affecting the implementation and advantages of the solution," said Christian Renaud, research manager at 451 Research IoT. "Although the IoT platform market is still in its infancy, there are already many vendors investing, so it is difficult for new entrants to create differentiation. Hitachi has a wide range of OT and IT technologies to help them understand the large-scale construction and deployment of IoT solutions. The necessary conditions needed to assist customers in establishing action plans to accelerate the creation of business value."
Lumada provides all the components needed to build an IoT solution, including integration of edge devices and connection functions, application integration, data integration and coordination services, database, processing of stream and batch data, advanced analysis, and artificial intelligence. , simulation tools, reusable solution blueprints and enterprise services.
Lumada has assembled Hitachi's decades of information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT), as well as the recognized technologies of each product line, and successfully differentiated it from other IoT platforms with three major features:
  • Openness: Lumada's architecture combines openness and flexibility to not only easily integrate advanced technologies in the Hitachi IoT partner ecosystem, but also provide a scalable development foundation for solutions for various industrial applications. The purpose of this architecture is to encourage open innovation, collaborative build and accelerate development of solutions with Hitachi partners, Global System Integrators (GSIs) and customers.
  • Self-adaptation: Lumada provides a more flexible IoT solution development platform, supporting various IoT applications and partner technologies through a heterogeneous architecture to create a more flexible, easier to use and expand working environment. This platform provides complete support for the digital ecosystem in various industries.
The core of Lumada is a blueprint that can be reused and adjusted according to the needs of various industries and applications, such as predictive operation maintenance, urban data sharing, connected medical care, smart transportation, oil and gas industry, sustainable energy and so on. Through this platform, users can easily select and integrate components that are most suitable for specific applications. This not only simplifies the customization process, but also streamlines the process of building the solution and accelerates the creation of value.
  • Verification: The ethical quality in the era of information security and digitalization is Hitachi's first principle. Lumada uses trusted Hitachi business technology, including Pentaho advanced data coordination services, visualization and analysis software deployed in today's more than 1600 corporate customer environments. There are also Hitachi Streaming Data Platform (HSDP) applications for Hitachi's various technologies and solutions. Lumada also provides a variety of Hitachi control systems, including manufacturing production systems, algorithms and controllers, which can support a variety of industrial applications and content intelligence, and strengthen the management of relay data.
Hitachi's IoT product portfolio includes services and solutions for public safety, urban data sharing in smart cities, renewable and sustainable energy, smart transportation, precision agriculture and manufacturing, wastewater treatment and building systems, and environmental mining. Hitachi Insight Group will also collaborate with the Hitachi IoT ecosystem partners on the Lumada platform to develop new products.
