Google Announces Smart Display Platform with Voice Assistant

Google released Smart display platform, equipped with its own Google Assistant voice assistant, can voice display weather information, calendar, but also use Google Maps, search and play YouTube services, Lenovo, LG, Sony, JBL will launch related products.
In addition to voice-activated smart speakers, on-board computers, and headsets, Google also announced on Wednesday at the CES 2018 conference a new voice assistant Google Assistant hardware device called smart display and related partners.
According to the video released by Google (below), the smart display adopts the Android Things operating system launched by Google at the end of last year, and the Google Assistant's touch screen with built-in Google Assistant. It can display date, weather, calendar, and Assistant recommendations. Content can also use Google product services such as YouTube videos, Google Duo video phones, Google Photos, Google Maps, etc. Its appearance and functionality are reminiscent of the Amazon Echo Show.
Google also announced the first batch of smart display partners, including JBL, LG, Sony and Lenovo. Among them Lenovo has announced a cooperative smart display. Lenovo’s smart display is the result of the cooperation between Android Things, the Internet of Things operating system announced by Google at the end of last year, and Qualcomm Home Hub, a Qualcomm integrated networking platform announced only this week.
In addition to the above functions, the Lenovo Smart Display can also be used as a smart home hub to control lighting, Nest's air conditioning or other connected home devices. Lenovo products offer 8-inch and 10-inch screen models, priced at US$200 and US$250, respectively, and are scheduled to be available this summer.
Google announced this week that Google Assistant can integrate with more than 1,500 devices. Smart displays are only a small part of the Assistant ecosystem. The search giant also announced the wisdom of other Assistant intelligent voice horn partners, including Bang & Olufsen, Braven, iHome, JBL, Jensen, LG and other 13 manufacturers. In addition, Google also announced that Google Assistant will enter Android Auto.
