What is 8K?
In simple terms, 8K is a clearer visual experience.
For example, Full HD video is also known as 1080P, and each frame of the image is two million pixels. 4K is 8 million pixels per frame, while 8K is 33 million pixels.
In other words, the resolution of 8K video is 16 times that of 1080P!
You know, full-frame SLR cameras can also shoot about 20.2 million effective pixels. Each frame exceeds the full-frame SLR camera.
The huge amount of pixels makes the 8K video extremely clear in every frame. With 120fps frame rate, high dynamic range (HDR), wide color gamut (WCG), and other video technologies, it is difficult for the human eye to distinguish between images and objects. At a standard viewing distance, the 8K TV offers a viewing angle of up to 100 degrees, significantly exceeding 55 degrees in 4K. With up to 22 channels of audio, it can provide users with an immersive video experience and bring a strong presence.
What are the applications of 8K?

Each live video of the live 8K Ultra HD video has 33 million pixels. The amount of video raw data is very large, reaching 72 Gbits per second. This needs to be applied to the top hardware encoding devices and encoding chips.
At the same time, using Alibaba Video Cloud's self-developed push-stream software, on the push-flow server, the collected baseband data streams of video and audio are combined into RTMP streams and pushed to the live broadcast center.

Network transmission is the lifeline of the Internet live broadcast. A stable and high-speed network can achieve high-quality, long-distance live video streaming.
The live broadcast program was applied to Alibaba Cloud's live video and Aliyun high-speed channels.
Alibaba Cloud currently provides live broadcast centers in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Singapore. It can complete live video, cloud recording, and on-demand video functions. With Alibaba Cloud CDN's more than 1,300 nodes around the world, users can watch videos smoothly.
Between the live centers, Alibaba Cloud High-Speed ​​Channel can be used to successfully complete inter-regional network intercommunication on the cloud. Through long-term accumulation of experience in large-scale live events and system precipitation, Alibaba Cloud can monitor live streams in real-time over the entire link, and identify and solve Caton causes in time.
Alibaba Hangzhou Xixi Park is 1300 kilometers away from the meeting place of Shenzhen Yunqi Conference. How to ensure the stable transmission of large amounts of data at such a long distance is another problem.

If you want to experience the high-definition picture quality and thrill of 8K video, you need powerful video player capabilities. In order to ensure the high quality of this 8K video, this broadcast uses an 8K player from Alibaba Cloud's self-developed video cloud, which can be buffered and protected against network jitter. 8K high-definition playback requires powerful decoding capabilities. The 8K video playback software developed by Ali Video Cloud has not only software decoding capability but also GPU hardware decoding acceleration. It can monitor the performance status of the rendering pipeline, real-time decoding, and ensures smooth playback.
  • Calculate ability
In order to ensure the smooth flow of 8K, Alibaba Cloud launched a new generation of bare metal servers (Dragon) to carry high-performance computing in the push server and live broadcast center.
Bare metal servers (Dragon) can provide 96-core, maximum 768G memory high-performance specifications, as a push-flow server, to ensure the smoothness and experience of the project. The Dragon Cloud server used in the project is powered by an Intel Xeon Platinum 8163 (Skylake) CPU and supports 96 vCPUs. The computing performance of the example is 50% ahead of the industry. DDR4 memory is used. The memory data transmission speed reaches 2666MT/s and the memory bandwidth reaches 128 GiB/s. The requirement of 72 Gbps for 8K raw material achieves a smooth experience. At the same time, Shenlong supports up to 32 flexible network cards, enabling high-availability cluster construction, low-cost failover and refined network management, and supporting high-performance networks up to 450 Millions of PPS network packets are sent and received to meet critical application network performance requirements, and packet loss is resolved from the source.
  • Storage capacity
The 8K video transcoding system requires high-throughput storage system support and low-cost storage for subsequent distribution and long-term storage.
In December of last year, Alibaba Cloud Storage released Alibaba Cloud Storage Engine 2.0, which can provide Tb/s-level write capability. At the same time, Cloud Storage Engine 2.0 uses multi-stream parallel mapping technology, which enables the throughput of cloud disks to expand horizontally. The volume is far beyond the physical disk.
Alibaba Cloud's NASPlus storage series combines the high IO and high expansion capabilities of cloud storage engine 2.0 with broadcast-level intelligent cache read-ahead technology, which greatly enhances transcoding and non-linear editing capabilities. OSS object storage that is seamlessly connected with NASPlus is the most suitable low-cost, high-throughput storage for mass-quality audio and video, and has recently launched the Extreme Edition, which has increased performance by an order of magnitude.
